Dr. Tiep will be discussing COPD and related conditions and the benefits of pulmonary rehab practiced on a daily basis – particularly important at this time of COVID-19. One of the foremost experts on lung disease, Brian Tiep, M.D., brings nearly a half-century of experience to this webinar. Dr. Tiep serves as director of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program and Smoking Cessation programs at City of Hope in California. Dr. Tiep received his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. In addition to his work at City of Hope, Dr. Tiep is program designer and medical director of the Respiratory Disease Management Institute in Pomona and Monrovia, California. He is also an inventor who wrote the first textbook on oxygen therapy, received several patents for devices to detect lung disorders and designed several oxygen delivery devices.

The first webinar, "Coping with Stress in Difficult Times", featuring Arpi Minassian, Ph.D., will be broadcast live at 3:00 pm Eastern on Wednesday, June 24, 2020. Dr. Minassian will help you learn more about stress and where it comes from, as well has how to recognize signs of stress and anxiety. She will discuss tips for how to cope with emotional distress related to chronic medical conditions as well as the difficult times we are all facing.

She is a nurse practitioner who cares for patients with sleep disorders and pulmonary conditions. Under the supervision of a doctor, she provides assessments, orders diagnostic tests, interprets test results and makes treatment recommendations. Garvey's research interests include exercise and self-management for patients with chronic lung disease. Garvey has authored chapters in the Lippincott Manual of Nursing Practice and has had her work published in several national professional journals. She is a former president of the California Thoracic Society. She has also served on many national and state committees, including as co-chair of the American Thoracic Society's pulmonary rehabilitation group. In addition, she has assisted with developing numerous international guidelines on helping patients with pulmonary conditions improve their functional abilities, symptoms and quality of life. Her awards include the Mary Burns Award from the California Society for Pulmonary Rehabilitation and a research scholarship from the American Lung Association in California.
